Fenugreek - The Galactagogue?

Fenugreek is an annual plant. It is cultivated worldwide as a semiarid crop. Its seeds and leaves are common ingredients in dishes from the Indian subcontinent. Culinary use of fenugreek is usually believed to be safe. However fenugreek is not approved or recommended for clinical use by any government agency. This article allows you to know only about the beneficial effects of the fenugreek and not recommended to follow the same without prior approval from your physician. Let's get into the topic...

Effect of fenugreek on galactagogue

Fenugreek, a herbal remedy used for galactagogue (Insufficient milk production).Consumption of fenugreek significantly increased amount of the produced breast milk. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for infants upto six months of age. Infants who were breasted for longer period may also have a lower risk of developing obesity and T2DM at adulthood. For mothers breastfeeding could limit the risk of ovarian cancer and T2DM (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus)

True insufficient milk secretion can results from many causes, ranging from inability to lactate due to breast abnormalities or endocrine disorder. Although maternal breastfeeding milk production can be often increased through psychological support or maternal breastfeeding education.
Study shows fenugreek can increase milk lactose and had no effect on milk fatty acids, protein and energy content and it shows the group  who have consumed 20 % protein on daily caloric requirement with 1g of fenugreek/kg of bodyweight/day shows 16% increment in milk production

 Herbal substances increase lactation

Fennel, Barley, Anise, Garlic, Fenugreek are becoming more popular for increasing lactation. Among all fenugreek has protective effects against diabetes, atheroscelorosis, Inflammation, hyperlipidemia as well as role in galactagogue due to a part trignonelline one of the active ingredient in fenugreek

In the bottom line,

Study confirms fenugreek increases milk production and galactagogue effect was confirmed but fenugreek alone cannot overcome lactation impairment due to undernutrition. Fenugreek supplementation might enhance milk production in case of insufficient maternal milk production due to maternal stress, difficulties in breast feeding management or when mothers are breast feeding twins. But please note, fenugreek has no effect in situations such as undernutrition deficiency, mammary hypoplasia and hormonal deregulation

An alcohol consumption affects training performance - Here's how?

Alcohol is not an essential part of the human diet but various alcohols of which the only one quantitative significance of ethanol are consumed by larger part of the world's population. And also alcohol is significant source of energy 7 kilo calories (29 Kilo Joule) per gram of alcohol (Ethanol). Intake of alcohol may impair performance of endurance training. There is some groups of evidence supported that athletes consume more alcohols than non-athletes.    Ethanol on an impaired glycogen metabolism: Re synthesis of glycogen stores in liver and muscle is one of the key goals of athletes after intensive training or competition. Most of the evidence shoes that synthesis of of glycogen is impaired by impaired hepatic glucose output in the presence of even relatively low levels of ethanol. At the same time there seems to be no effect on type 2 muscle fibers. The reduced hepatic glucose output will result in less insulin secretion and thereby ethanol affects the glucose release and glu

Facts about "Detraining"- Meta-analysis

Are you a Fitness Enthusiast?, Then you may familiar with the term "Detraining". Sometimes you may have a question, 'What happens next if i 'Quit' my training?' . Let's see deeper into this topic, What is Detraining (AKA, Reversibility Principle of Training): It is a process, in which your training adaptations will start decline, It occurs when person quits his or her training program. Partial or complete loss of training adaptations as a result of a training reduction or cessation. It occurs due to lack of compliance with an exercise program, Injury, Illness (or) a planned periodization transition phase. ( Note: All Physiological variables don'
